In observance of National Women's Month, Rice University's Arts of Tolerance, Foundation for Modern Music and Flamart present Premier Women, a weekend celebration of female empowerment.
Premier Women weekend will feature a special performance honoring several Houstonian women who have contributed to making our city a better place, and a spacial salute to the unprecedented number of women judges newly elected in the Greater Houston Area during the November 2018 election. GlamourTango will close out the weekend with its Southwest and Southeast US debut.
An evening of tributes and honors to some of Houston's special women: Alice Valdez (MECA, Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts), Mary Guillory (Houston Ebony Opera Guild), Sangeeta Gad (UHD, Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences), Mary Carol Warwick (HCC Central, retired professor of music and one of the area's most prolific composers), with special recognition award presented by Council Member Amanda Edwards. Artistic performances by Houston Ebony Opera Guild Chorus, the duo of Polly Ferman and Eddy Marcano, Paul Boyd, Cassandra White, Raul Orlando Edwards, Jade Simmons, Alison Greene, Reinaldo Costa, Strictly Street Salsa and Amanda Edwards.
The Houston debut of Polly Ferman's GlamourTango!, the internationally renowned all-women ensemble in a multimedia presentation of the acclaimed production.

GlamourTango is a unique all-female international multimedia music and dance show. Created in 2008 by pianist and music director, Polly Ferman, it pays homage to women in Tango. Since its debut, GlamourTango has successfully traveled internationally to stages all over the world. GlamourTango is educational and motivational: the ultimate homage to Womens’ Empowerment.
Polly Ferman is a leading interpreter of the music of the Americas, Uruguayan born, New York-based pianist Polly Ferman captivates audiences with outstanding performances of works by Latin American composers. Recognized by The Japan Times as "a Musical Ambassador of the Americas," Ferman's numerous recordings constitute one of the most extensive collections of Latin American repertoire for piano (www.pollyferman.net). Ferman's tours as a soloist have included performances with prestigious orchestras around the world, such as Chicago, San Francisco, Sacramento, Indianapolis, Tokyo, Philippines, and Argentine National Symphonies, among others. She has appeared in recitals halls such as New York's Carnegie Hall, Tokyo's Takemitsu Hall, London's St. Martin in the Fields, and Buenos Aires' Teatro Colón. Ferman created, directs and performs in GlamourTango, a unique all female international multimedia music and dance show.
